The children had an amazing day earlier this week when they took part in an African Art Day and learnt all about Bogolanfini. It is a unique method of patterning fabric using a special kind of mud and solution. A similar, western batik process uses pre-dyed cotton or wax. The children really enjoyed the process and the visiting adult said that they were all outstanding!

We've learnt the sound 'oi' this week and worked really hard to use when we were writing words and sentences. Elmer, was our lead text this week and the children have found out all about 'patchwork' and patterns and also about animals that live in the jungle. They have created lots of their very own Elmers using a variety of resources.

In maths, we have been using the bar method to visually see the two parts of 9. The children were great at seeing the two parts using the different coloured unifix cubes and lots of us were able to record our ideas of part, part whole using pictures and numerals.

It was great to see so many sporty children at school today. Thank you for the donations; they will be sent straight to the Sports Relief charity.

We have been talking lots about the importance of washing our hands with soap again this week and also about drying them properly, and not down your trousers.

A reminder that next Friday, March 20th, we are encouraging the children to wear odd socks to raise awareness of Down Syndrome. Many thanks.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
