Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of what has been a busy and exciting summer term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the fantastic experiences the children have enjoyed over recent weeks.

Across the school, pupils have taken part in a wide range of trips, workshops, and events that have enriched their learning and created lasting memories. From fascinating class trips to engaging in new challenges, it’s been a term full of opportunity and joy. Highlights have included our brilliant scooter workshop, an energetic and competitive Sports Day, and some wonderful musical performances showcasing the talents of our young musicians.

We’ve ended the year with a bang with our whole school Summer Fun Day, filled with sporting challenges and exciting activities for everyone to enjoy. It’s been a real celebration of everything our children have achieved this year. We’re also grateful to PACT for organising our end-of-year disco – always a firm favourite and it has been a lovely way for the children to celebrate together.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your ongoing support during what has been a year of change for the school. Your patience and partnership have meant so much, and together we’ve continued to make Hall Meadow a warm, vibrant and nurturing place for our children to grow.

As I look ahead to September, I am truly delighted to be joining Hall Meadow full time as Headteacher. I feel incredibly proud and privileged to be part of this wonderful school community and am excited about what we will achieve together in the new academic year.

Wishing you all a restful, happy, and sunny summer break.

Mrs Farmer
Headteacher

What a Wonderful Year in Reception!

As the school year comes to a close, we want to say a huge well done to our amazing Iris children. It has been a fantastic year, full of learning, laughter and lots of new adventures.

We’ve made so many special memories together. In November, we went on our very first theatre trip to see The Smartest Giant in Town. The children were full of wonder and excitement. In December, our little stars took to the stage for the Nativity, and what a performance it was! We were so proud of their singing, acting and confident smiles. It was a truly heartwarming moment for everyone.

Each week, the children looked forward to Welly Wednesdays in our forest school area. They explored the outdoors, splashed in puddles, built dens and discovered the magic of nature.

In March, we had a fantastic day at West Lodge Farm, meeting animals, enjoying tractor rides and learning all about life on the farm. Back in the classroom, we were lucky enough to watch tadpoles turn into frogs and caterpillars become butterflies. What a wonderful way to learn about nature and life cycles.

Throughout the year, the children have blossomed. They have grown in confidence, made new friends, and learned to read, write and explore the world with curiosity and kindness. We are so proud of everything they have achieved.

A big thank you to you, our wonderful parents and carers, for your support throughout the year. Reception has been such a special time, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things your children will do in Year 1.

We have had a fantastic Summer term in Year 2 and have been working really hard. This term we have focused lots on our writing and loved learning about and writing about the Great Fire of London. We all wrote diaries imagining we were in the great fire and how we felt. We have been really successful at including our senses and improving our vocabulary. We even lined up on the playground and passed a bucket of water down to put out a 'fire'!

We have combined our DT and History this year to focus on play grounds. In History we have been learning all about Charles Wicksteed and the history of a playground equipment. We have compared old equipment with new equipment and learnt about how the changes have been better for everyone. In DT we focused on making a ferris wheel. We have designed and planned our own model and created it using cardboard and straws. We learnt about the importance of the axel too. We enjoyed designing and planning our own dream park and have turned some of ideas into models such as swings and slides.

In science we have loved learning all about materials and have tested a range of different materials to see how stretchy they are and learnt about their properties.

During the hotter days we have enjoyed spending some time doing yoga, this helped to cool us down and stretch our bodies after busy days of working. The children have worked so incredibly hard throughout this term and the whole year and should be really proud of their efforts. We hope everyone has a lovely Summer.

Year 3 – End of Summer Term Newsletter

As the summer term draws to a close, it’s been a joy to look back on the learning, laughter, and growth we’ve shared in Year 3. From exciting experiments to fantastic writing and world exploration, we’ve packed so much into this final term!

In Science, we became real investigators, diving deep into scientific enquiry. We explored how to ask questions, plan fair tests, and record results carefully. Through fun, hands-on experiments—like cleaning coins, building solar ovens, and even baking cakes—we discovered how changing one variable can affect an outcome. These activities helped us understand cause and effect and encouraged us to think critically, ask “what if?”, and learn from the results of our tests.

In Maths, we continued to stretch our thinking with more complex concepts such as fractions, money, and telling the time. We practised recognising and working with fractions in shapes and numbers, solved real-world money problems, and became much more confident in reading both analogue and digital clocks. Through games, challenges, and practical learning, we developed important mathematical skills that we’ll carry with us into Year 4.

In Geography, we went on an incredible global adventure as we explored the different biomes of the world. We investigated how climate, animals, and plants vary across ecosystems such as deserts, rainforests, grasslands, and tundras. We loved making comparisons between them, and we finished the unit by creating eye-catching posters to showcase everything we had learned—combining geography with research, writing, and art.

In English, we’ve continued to develop into confident, creative writers. We focused on improving our sentences, adding detail and expression, and exploring how to use grammar and punctuation to enhance our writing. We practised writing in different styles—from descriptions and instructions to imaginative stories.

In PSHE, we explored important themes around growing and changing, helping us to understand how our bodies, emotions, and relationships develop over time. A highlight of the term was a visit from the Life Education team, who led an engaging session about acceptance and celebrating differences. These discussions encouraged us to reflect on kindness, respect, and how we can be supportive and inclusive to everyone around us.

This summer term has been full of exploration, creativity, and meaningful learning. Year 3, we are so proud of how far you’ve come—both as learners and as thoughtful, kind individuals. Have a wonderful, well-earned summer break.

In Maths, the children tackled a wide range of topics including fractions, decimals, shapes, charts, and coordinates. In English, they let their imaginations run wild by writing stories inspired by The Iron Man and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and they worked hard on crafting detailed descriptions — including enchanting settings like magical forests.

During Reading, the class enjoyed Leo and the Gorgon’s Curse and the thought-provoking novel Wonder, which led to some deep, meaningful discussions and reflections. In Science, the children explored States of Matter and learned about the importance of Conservation, thinking about how we can care for and protect the natural world. This linked perfectly with our Geography work on Sustainability and learning about countries across Europe. In Art, they experimented with bold designs through a project called Powerprints. Music lessons included learning to play the recorder and exploring music from around the world, which everyone really enjoyed. In Design & Technology, we planned our own pavilions, and even attempted our own mini models.

Year 4 should be proud of all they’ve achieved!

As we come to the end of a fantastic summer term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all that Ares Class has achieved and enjoyed over the past few months. The children have worked incredibly hard, shown great curiosity, and had plenty of fun along the way!

Science – Changing Materials In science, we’ve been exploring the fascinating world of materials and how they change. We investigated reversible changes like melting and dissolving, and also looked at irreversible changes such as burning and rusting. The children particularly enjoyed learning about the fire triangle and seeing how each element plays a vital role in combustion.

History – Life in Anglo-Saxon England Our history topic took us back in time to the Anglo-Saxon period. We examined how they arrived in England, the evidence they left behind, and what it tells us about their lives and culture. The highlight of the topic was undoubtedly our trip to West Stowe, where the children explored replica Anglo-Saxon houses and got up close to artefacts discovered on the site. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring history to life.

PE – Game, Set, Match! This term, Ares Class brought Wimbledon to school! We practised our tennis skills on the grass, focusing on forehands, backhands, volleys, and serves. The class showed great sportsmanship and determination. We also had a fun introduction to cricket and rounders, learning the basic rules and enjoying some energetic team games.

RE – What is Commitment? In RE, we explored the concept of commitment, considering what it means to Christians and how it plays a role in our own lives. The children shared thoughtful reflections and took part in meaningful discussions about dedication, values, and staying true to our goals and beliefs.

It has been a pleasure teaching Ares Class this year. Their enthusiasm, kindness, and growing confidence have been wonderful to see. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. I wish you all a relaxing and joyful summer holiday!

Zeus Class – Signing Off in Style By Year 6

We’ve crammed so much into this final school term, At Hall Meadow, we’ve grown, we’ve laughed, and we’ve learned. From classroom to playground, from pencils to pen, From lessons to laughter, from start to the end.

Our SATs week arrived- we all gave our all, With toast every morning and support on call. The grown-ups cheered us with kindness and care, And breakfast together made us feel prepared.

We’ve visited our new schools-our next big place, Explored the halls, the lunchroom, the space. We met new faces, saw what’s ahead, And left with excitement, not worry or dread.

With Rubicon skateboards, we balanced and rolled, Trying new tricks, feeling brave, feeling bold. And every Friday, we made a big splash, Swimming our lengths in one joyful dash!

Then off to Wicksteed for a thrill-packed day, We zoomed down the log flume, got soaked on the way! We screamed, we laughed, we ran wild and free, A trip full of joy and sweet memory.

An afternoon tea came next on the scene, With cakes, cups and chatter- so calm and serene. Tables were set with such thought and charm, A moment of magic with friendship and calm.

We’ve scribbled our shirts with colours and flair, Each name and each doodle shows how much we care. A memory we’ll wear, not just for show, Of all of the friends we’ve come to know.

The Summer Fun Day was a highlight for sure, With laughter and games and excitement galore. We ran, we played, we danced in the sun, A proper send-off, packed full of fun!

Then came the disco- our final big night, With photos and laughter and fairy-lit light. A photographer snapped us, all dressed to impress, And we danced the night away- nothing less!

It’s been quite the term- so busy, so full, Of memories and moments, every one wonderful. Now Zeus Class says thank you, with all of our heart- Though we may be leaving, we’ll never part.
