Welcome to the New Academic Year

{item_alt_tag}

What a fantastic and energetic start to the academic year it’s been! Our school has been buzzing with excitement as we welcomed our new Reception children—it's been a joy to see them settle in so beautifully and begin their learning journeys with us.

We’re thrilled to have launched our new Before and After School Care, now running with themed days to keep things fresh and fun (do check out the posters around school for more details!). Bookings can be made easily via Arbor, and we encourage families to take advantage of this enriching provision.

Our playground has had a vibrant refresh, with new resources including giant Lego, Polydron, Scooter boards, and much more. It’s wonderful to see the children engaging in imaginative play and collaborative activities during break times.

To improve communication and support learning at home, we’ve introduced termly curriculum overviews. These will be sent out just before each half-term and will include what each year group is studying, helpful tips for home learning, and key information to keep you in the loop. We’ve also shared Key Dates for the Academic Year document, which will be updated as needed.

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new School Houses: Pegasus, Phoenix, Griffin, and Centaur! Every child and member of staff has been assigned to a house, and throughout the year, children will work together to earn points through teamwork, achievement, and school spirit. We kicked things off with a whole-school democracy event, where our Year 6 pupils delivered inspiring speeches to their peers. Every child in the school then cast their vote to elect their Year 6 House Captain—a brilliant example of a pupil's voice in action. Watch this space for more exciting House news and events!

I’ve recently met with PACT, and together we’ve mapped out a calendar of events for the year—including some exciting new ideas! Please keep an eye on Class Dojo for updates and announcements.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further, please speak to your child’s class teacher. We’re here to help and always happy to chat.

Mrs Farmer.

A reminder that classroom doors open at 8.45am and school officially starts at 8.50am. After 8.50am, your child will be classed as late and needs to enter school via the school office to ensure the register has been changed with their attendance.

A reminder to park safely and responsibly around the school site during drop-off and pick-up times. Let’s work together to keep our children safe and make the area around the school safer for pupils and residents alike.

A reminder that we have been having voicemail issues and due to this we are no longer using these for absences. All absences are to be emalied to the school office before registration or please speak directly with a member of staff.

What a fantastic start to the year it has been in Reception! We’ve been busy learning all about our amazing bodies - naming different parts, exploring our senses, and discovering how to keep ourselves healthy and strong.

In phonics, we’ve been learning our Set 1 Read Write Inc. sounds and have been busy spotting sounds in our environment, orally blending words together, and starting to write initial sounds. We’re even beginning to write some CVC words - amazing progress! In maths, we’ve been learning all about numbers to 5 - counting, ordering, and recognising them in lots of fun ways.

During Drawing Club, we’ve loved exploring stories such as The Little Red Hen, The Scarecrow’s Wedding, and Elmer. We enjoyed using our imaginations to create drawings and add our own ideas to the stories - and even made our own bread just like The Little Red Hen!

In PE, we’ve been developing our physical skills by learning how to jump, throw, and balance. We’ve also loved our Forest Fun sessions, where we’ve explored nature, built dens, and enjoyed plenty of outdoor adventures.

To finish off the half term, we’ve been learning about different celebrations and how people mark special occasions around the world.

What a wonderful few weeks of learning, laughter, and new friendships!

It has been a very busy and exciting start to Year 1! The children have adapted brilliantly to their new routines and way of learning, showing great enthusiasm across all our topics. They are working so well together and have become wonderfully independent—taking care of their tables, gathering their own resources, and tidying up with care. It’s been such a pleasure to see their confidence and teamwork grow, and I hope they have enjoyed this term as much as I have.

This term, Year 1 have been enjoying the story The Queen’s Hat as part of their learning. Inspired by the Queen’s windy adventure through the city, the children went on a virtual bus tour around London! Along the way, they explored some of the capital’s most famous landmarks, including The Gherkin, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and Big Ben. The tour sparked lots of discussion and curiosity, bringing the story - and London - to life!

This term in RE, Year 1 have been exploring Christianity through the big question: “What do Christians believe about God?” In one of our lessons, we focused on the story of creation and thought about what it means to feel proud of making something. To bring this idea to life, the children ventured down to the forest, where they worked together to gather natural materials and create group artwork. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the beauty of the world around us and the joy of creating something special as a team.

In Geography this term, we’ve been exploring maps and developing our understanding of aerial perspective and direction. The children have loved using maps to identify human and physical features in our local area. They also learnt how to use a compass and practiced using directional language to describe locations. To finish our unit, we explored the differences between rural and urban areas and discussed which type of area we live in. It’s been wonderful to see the children’s curiosity and confidence grow as young geographers!

Regards

Mrs Haddon

It’s been a busy and exciting term in Year 2! We have been exploring the world around us by searching for interesting materials with different textures. The children used what they found to inspire their own artwork, layering and combining materials to create some fantastic collages with lots of detail and imagination.

We’ve also been thinking a lot about how we treat others. Through stories and discussions, the children learned about the importance of kindness and how one person’s actions can make a big difference. We looked at how Jesus taught people to be kind and thought about how we can follow that example in our own lives.

In our science work, the children took part in a fun hands-on experiment that showed just how important it is to keep clean! It sparked great conversations about healthy habits and looking after ourselves and others.

What a wonderful and busy term we've had in Year 3! From poetry to castles, number lines to fair tests, your children have jumped into their learning with great energy, creativity, and curiosity. Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to…

 English

We began the term with The Boy Who Couldn’t See, using poetic language to explore rhythm, rhyme, and rich vocabulary. The children’s poems were full of imagery and emotion – a real joy to read!

Next, we delved into storytelling with The Happy Prince, focusing on character, setting, and dialogue. The children used vivid language and imagination to create heartfelt narratives, while also practising paragraphing, punctuation, and descriptive vocabulary.

Most recently, we worked on instructional writing through My Strong Mind, learning to give clear and confident instructions using command verbs and time connectives. The children impressed us with their clarity, creativity, and sentence accuracy.

Maths

In Maths, we’ve been building strong foundations with Place Value to 1,000. The children have worked on partitioning numbers, using number lines, and counting in steps of 4, 8, 50, and 100. Their confidence in understanding and representing numbers has really grown!

We then moved on to Addition and Subtraction, where we explored both mental strategies and formal written methods. We’ve been solving puzzles, spotting patterns, and tackling missing number problems.

 Science – Scientific Enquiry

This term, we’ve introduced the key skills of Scientific Enquiry. The children have asked fantastic questions, planned and carried out simple investigations, and learnt how to make observations and measurements. We’ve been drawing conclusions and spotting patterns, using evidence to support our ideas. Budding scientists in the making!

 Geography – Settlements
In Geography, we explored different types of settlements, from tiny hamlets to large cities. The children learned how to read maps and locate places, and we discussed how settlements and land use can change over time. We also shared ideas about how local environments, like our school area, could be improved.

Design and Technology – Castle Structures

This unit was a real favourite! The children designed and built their very own model castles, complete with features like battlements, turrets, and drawbridges. We used recycled materials, learnt about strength and stability, and evaluated our work with pride. The creativity on display was amazing!

PSHE – Me and My Relationships

Through this unit, the children explored how to manage emotions, build positive relationships, and solve conflicts respectfully. We practised listening carefully to each other, working as a team, and thinking about how others feel. These are such important life skills, and it’s been lovely to see how supportive and kind the children are becoming.

Year 4 have had a fantastic and busy few weeks of learning! In our reading lessons, we have been enjoying the thought-provoking story Wonder and have been reflecting on its themes of kindness and acceptance. We have also used our imaginations to step into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, writing wonderfully descriptive pieces about the magical and mouth-watering treats we discovered there! In Geography, we have been exploring how the United Kingdom is divided into counties, learning about the unique foods, wildlife, and cultures found across the country. In Science, we have been learning about the different types of teeth and their functions. To finish off the half term, we proudly led and performed in the Harvest Festival performance - a wonderful celebration enjoyed by all, especially the parents who came to watch! We are looking forward to welcoming

What a busy and exciting half term it’s been! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects and should be very proud of what they’ve achieved.

In mathematics, we’ve been deepening our understanding of number and place value, exploring how numbers work and relate to each other. The children have also been practising their addition and subtraction skills, using different methods to solve problems with increasing confidence and accuracy.

In English, we’ve really enjoyed reading Street Child by Berlie Doherty, which sparked lots of thoughtful discussion about life in Victorian times. We have also written our own imaginative narratives inspired by Anthony Browne’s picture books, developing our descriptive writing and storytelling skills. To finish the half term, the children researched and produced non-chronological reports about polar bears, combining their creativity with factual writing.

In science, our topic has been Living Things, including Humans. We’ve explored gestation periods, growth and development, and discussed the changes that occur during puberty and old age. The children have shown great maturity in approaching these important topics and have demonstrated a keen interest in understanding how humans grow and change.

In geography, our focus has been Our Blue Planet. We’ve learned about how rivers are formed, the many ways people use rivers, and the threats our seas and oceans face. This has led to some fantastic conversations about how we can all help protect our planet’s water systems.

In PE, we’ve been learning the skills and teamwork needed to play tag rugby. The children have shown great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, developing their passing, dodging and tagging techniques.

It’s been a wonderful half term full of learning, teamwork and curiosity. We’re looking forward to seeing what next half term brings!

As we reach the end of a busy and exciting first term, we’re delighted to share how well our Year 6 pupils have settled into life at the top of the school. From the very first day, they’ve stepped up to the challenge with maturity, enthusiasm, and a growing sense of responsibility.

One of the standout moments this term was our residential trip to Govilon, Wales – an unforgettable adventure full of fun, teamwork, and resilience. The children took part in a range of thrilling activities including gorge walking, canoeing, and indoor climbing. Whether they were navigating rivers or scaling climbing walls, every pupil showed bravery and determination, making it a truly memorable experience for all.

Back in the classroom, our Year 6s have completed their first set of assessments as part of their preparation for the SATs in the summer. We’ve been so impressed with their focus and effort – a great start to the year’s learning journey.

This term also saw the election of our School Council representatives – congratulations to Elena and , who were chosen by their classmates to represent Year 6. We look forward to seeing them bring fresh ideas and leadership to the role.

We were especially proud of the many children who put themselves forward to be House Captains, writing and delivering passionate speeches to the whole school. It takes real courage to stand up and speak in front of others, and every candidate did themselves proud. A big well done to those who were elected – we know you’ll be fantastic role models.

We’re incredibly proud of everything our Year 6 children have already achieved this term and look forward to what the rest of the year brings!
