Attendance

Attendance and Absence

Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in helping children succeed at school. At Hall Meadow Primary School, we expect all children to maintain good attendance of 95% or above wherever possible.

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please notify the school office on 01536 417627 as soon as possible.

We operate a 24-hour telephone answering service, allowing parents and carers to report an absence at any time.

Unauthorised Absence

If an absence is not reported to the school, it may be recorded as an unauthorised absence. Unauthorised absences can have a significant impact on your child's attendance record and learning.

Term-Time Leave

The school does not authorise holidays during term time.

From 1 September 2013, there has been no entitlement for parents to take their child on holiday during term time.

Any application for leave during term time will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Headteachers would not normally consider a family holiday during term time to be exceptional.

Penalty Notices

Parents may be fined by the Local Authority if a child is taken out of school during term time without authorised leave.

The initial Fixed Penalty Notice is:

£60 per parent, per child

For example, in a two-parent family with two children, the total fine would be:

£240.00

Parents who take multiple holidays during term time may be subject to further action and prosecution by the Local Authority.

School Day

Children are expected to arrive at school on time each day.

  • Doors open: 8:40am
  • Register closes: 8:50am
  • After 8:50am: Children are recorded as late

Arriving on time each day helps children settle quickly, access their learning from the start of the day and make the most of every learning opportunity.
